Education and Outreach
We love to do school presentations, promoting fitness and healthy living, and are especially active with this message in the months around our Shiprock Kids Marathon in May and the Monument Valley Kids Marathon in November. We also do classroom talks, health fairs and public appearances to promote community wellness and lifelong fitness.
As part of our outreach to promote healthy living and an awareness of the greatness of Dine’ Bikeyah, we have published trail guides, the “Wonders of Dine’ Bikeyah” calendar and a “Running the Rez” event calendar/poster. We are currently working on a project to create an interactive online trails inventory of the great hikes and rides across the Nation.
A NavajoYES tradition since 2000 has been our Alternative Spring Break programs, whereby we partner with college groups to provide a meaningful Navajo Nation experience during their spring break. Students are engaged in a variety of real-world activities and programs, providing a positive encounter for both the college students and our local communities. College groups have included Washington University in St. Louis, USC, University of Kansas, Vanderbilt, University of Pennsylvania, Grinnell College, and the University of Colorado.
